Tell us a little about yourself: I’m Brenda Shaneke or Bre from Memphis,TN. I’ve been a license cosmetologist for 5 years. I thought I wanted to be a forensic scientist until i went with plan B(hair school). I’ve always played around in hair just never took it seriously. Last year I took my leap of faith and went full time doing hair. I was into everything that came with doing hair until I found my love for locs. I’ve been a full time stylist now for 1 1/2 and I love everything about it. I’ve created my own products and looking to add more. I’m looking to relocate soon and advance in my career.
Best known for: My dope starter locs parts.
What are the trendiest locstyles in your city? Rope twist, Barrel twist & Loc updos
Favorite apps: I love canva and pic editing apps for my flyers and pic.
Favorite hashtags: #memphislocs #goodlocday #brethehairjunkie
Who I’m following: Oh wow, I follow so many dope locticians and motivational businesses people.
Tip to get best results on a post: I can answer that in 2 ways if I could give someone who’s starting their journey advice.. trust the process, be patience and research your loctician. If I could give an upcoming loctician advice it would be RESEARCH, STAY CONSISTENT, and PERFECT YOUR CRAFT. Don’t look at someone else timing focus on your own and when your time comes go hard and remain humble.
Most viral post: the one that made it to goodlocday page.
How social media changed my life: Social media helps us reach people all over. I’m here in Memphis so Instagram mostly has definitely open doors for me to have out of town people come sit in my chair. I’ve also been able to connect with stylist/locticians from out of town.
What I love most about being a loc stylist? I love that fact that i get to see different people everyday. Every one has a different set of locs like you get to be creative with every person that sit in your chair. I feel like I’m in my comfort zone when doing locs. I really feel like doing locs was my calling from the jump.
The first time I was featured on GOOD LOC DAY was….December 10, 2019 I was sooo excited cause of course I had just started taking things seriously and for me to be featured on a page with soo many other great locticians was mind blowing.
